The landscape of the campus is changing. Tenured faculty are an endangered species at many institution. And no wonder... they are the privileged elite who generally teach little and come and go as they please. Their place is being taken by a contingent, increasingly unionized work force. I don't think this sea change can be stopped. But this writer is right that the prefessorate had better put their collective nose to the teaching grindstone if they hope to have the same chance as the white rhino.
