When I taught at UT-Austin, the battle cry was, "Hook 'em, Horns." This was accompanied by raising the first and fourth fingers of the right hand to imitate a longhorn steer. Today, the Longhorns are under fire for allegedly allowing star athletes to get top marks academically while ignoring their cheating on exams.

Like sexual assault on campuses and cops allegedly beating people up almost everywhere else, sports cheating is a hot topic in the media today. It started with the Sandusky cover-up --- the worst kind of cheating, I suppose--- at Penn State. Then came the revelations of phantom courses at UNC-Chapel Hill.
In tandem are the amazing legal decisions and lawsuits involving big time athletics:
1. The NLRB's ruling that Northwestern's football players are employees who can vote to unionize.
2. The O'Bannon anti-trust victory against the NCAA involving who should profit from college athlete's images, and
3. The Sockos class action suit against the NCAA and Division I schools for minimum wage payments for college athletes.
Interesting times in the world of college athletics for sure.
