This one --- Missoula: Rape and the Justice System in a College Town --- jumps on the "sexual assault" bandwagon, offering revelations about incidents at the University of Montana.

Krakauer also explored the sleezier side of American sex in his Under the Banner of Heaven," which dealt with the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and polygamy/statutory rape.
Of the new book, the Boston Globe review begins, "The news is rife with stories of sexual violence on college campuses. In
his excellent new book, 'Missoula,' Jon Krakauer takes a close look at
the emotionally tangled issue of acquaintance rape and how it affected
victims and perpetrators in Missoula, Mont., during a rash of incidents
from 2010 to 2012. That town of 70,000 is home to the University of
Montana and its extremely successful football team, the Grizzlies — or
The Griz, as the fans put it — some of whose players figure prominently
in Krakauer’s investigation."
After the Rolling Stone travesty, now the target of at least one law suit for defamation, a good, even-handed treatment of this delicate and controversial issue will be very welcome.
Krakauer broke into the big time with his Into Thin Air, the tail of a tragic climbing season on Mount Everest. The book stirred up controversy when his account of some of the deaths that season was challenged by others present at the time.
No matter... he went on to write Into the Wild, the story of a loaner who lost his life trying to master the wilderness solo... a yarn that was made into a very good film with an equally good sound track featuring Eddie Vetter of Pearl Jam.
All in all, I've enjoyed Krakauer's earlier books and look forward to seeing what he has to say about what is clearly the hottest topic on our campuses today.
